In a tiny attempt for me (the most unknown writer in the universe) to stay relevant I’m releasing several short stories for free.
Each one of these stories has been handpicked from my vast steaming pile of short story archives. They stand out for one reason or another. They’re my little word babies and I’m rather fond of them. The first story, DRIFT is still available here.
Today’s short story is a real gem, THE GIFT OF THE MAGI. It is my personal take on the O.Henry classic. It’s funny how I’ve always thought of myself as a horror/comedy writer, but some of my best material comes when I’m working outside of the genre. When I was putting together my first short story anthology APNEA, there was no doubt that GIFT would be included. Gone are my signature monstrous absurdities and horrible hilariousness, but the end result is a somber look at the failure of relationships.
For those new to my writing I’ve tried to give these stories a ‘rating’. GIFT OF THE MAGI is rated R for adult language and situations…and technically, brief nudity. You can download the PDF file to read at your leisure below.
